This why you should NEVER try to catch a dropped knife...
BTW, I also have a Chinese-style cleaver. The first time I used it, I cut my fingertip. And then almost chopped a finger OFF (took weeks to heal).

Ooops.
I was at the doctor's several weeks ago after a wee accident with a garden saw! The doctor used glue rather than stitches to hold the skin together while it healed and it seems to have done a good job.
