A difficult time. With the assisted living - I think you need to accept that he will be better off there. Not only will get the physical support from trained and very experienced professionals, he is also likely to be more stimulated by interactions with other residents and participation in organised activities. None of these places is perfect or ideal. You will want your father cared for by someone who is willing to do all the little, thoughtful things that you might do - and that doesn't necessarily happen. But you'll visit regularly no doubt and that will make a big difference in the equation.
